Garberville’s Cafe Bellini closed after health inspector finds ‘rodent feces’

Garberville’s Bellini Cafe was closed following a health inspection on Tuesday that found “rodent feces in every area of (the) facility” including the cookline, the prep area, the server area. The facility’s permit was immediately suspended due to the “imminent health hazard.”
The health inspection report noted the investigation done on Tuesday was in response to a complaint received by the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services.
In addition to finding rodent feces in all areas of the cafe, the health inspector noted “potential rodent bite marks on (the) bay of tortilla chips and (a) bag of croutons.”
Cafe Bellini is ordered to contract with a pest control service and clean all contaminated surfaces in the facility. The cafe also must store single-use food containers and utensils in containers with lids.
In addition to the rodent problem, Cafe Bellini must repair all leaking faucets, remove all standing water, and get access to cold water in the handwash sink.
Cafe Bellini has 15 days to request a hearing.
